Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending one of the publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) within the TMCF 47 member-school network.

Eligibility requirements

  • Enrolled as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior for the 2020-2021 school year at a TMCF 47 member-schools
    • For Entering Freshman Students:
      • Please provide proof of enrollment at a TMCF member-school as an incoming freshman during the 2020-2021 Academic School Year
    • For Current TMCF Member-School Students:
      • Must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2020-2021 Academic School Year
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrate leadership ability through a variety of measures
  • U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551

Applicants must submit the following documents for consideration:

  • Current Resume
  • Provide a copy of the 2020-2021 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
    • For entering Freshman Students:
      • Provide the high school transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term- this should include your end of Fall 2019 cumulative grades
    • For current college Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Seniors:
      • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of Fall 2019 cumulative grades
    • For entering Freshman Students:
      • Please upload one letter of reference from a teacher or counselor from your current high school
    • For current college Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Seniors:
      • Please upload one letter of reference- from a professor or advisor from your college or university.

Essay: Please answer the following questions (Maximum 500 words):

  • Describe circumstances you wish the Scholarship Selection Committee to consider when evaluating your application.
  • Describe examples of your leadership experience, and share how you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.
